Privacy Notice
Last updated: 6 October 2026
This notice explains what personal data Modernist.Recipes collects, why, and who we share it with. It applies to the Modernist.Recipes website and Service.
Who we are
Modernist.Recipes is operated by Bookhouse Digital Publishing Services Pty Ltd (ACN 076 454 754), trading as Modernist Recipes, and is the data controller for your personal data. Contact us through our contact page for anything privacy-related.
Your data
We do not use any tracking systems; it’s a core promise of the service. The only information we store about you is used to provide the service’s features:
- Account data – your email address, name, measure preferences, comment preferences, AI Credits.
- Content – the recipes, photos, notes and their associated data fields that you fill in.
- Payment data – handled by Paddle, not by us. We receive confirmation of your subscription and transactions (for example plan, status, and renewal dates), but never your full card details.
How we use it
We use your data to provide the Service, authenticate you, process your subscription, run the AI features you request, respond to support, keep the Service secure, and meet legal obligations.
Our basis for processing is performing our contract with you and our legitimate ongoing interest in running and securing the Service.
Who we share it with
We don’t sell your data.
Providers we need to run the Service (each provider receives only what it needs for its task):
- Paddle – our merchant of record, which processes payments and taxes. See Paddle’s privacy policy.
- Anthropic (Claude) – processes recipe text and photos when you use AI import or photo reading. If Anthropic is unavailable, requests may fail over to another large-language-model providers such as Google Gemini.
- Google (Gemini / Imagen) – generates spice-blend images when you use that feature.
- bookhouse.cloud – our hosting provider, which stores and serves the Service.
We must disclose data if required by law.
AI features and your content
When you use an AI feature, the content involved (the recipe text or photo you’re importing, or the blend you’re picturing) is sent to the AI provider named above to produce the result. We only send content when you trigger one of these features. Do not put anything into an AI feature that you would not want processed by a third-party AI service.
Cookies
We use essential cookies to keep you logged in and to keep the Service secure. We don’t use advertising, analytics, or cross-site tracking cookies.
How long we keep it
We keep your account data and content for as long as your account is open. If you delete content or close your account, we remove it from the live Service, though it may persist briefly in routine backups before those age out. We keep transaction records for as long as the law requires.
Your rights
You can delete or export your personal data from your account settings.
International transfers
We’re based in Australia and our providers may process data in other countries, including the EU and the US. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for those transfers.
Changes
We may update this notice. If a change is material, we’ll give reasonable notice. The “last updated” date at the top always reflects the current version.
