Recipe importing is complex. Our hand-crafted algorithm does an amazing job at dividing an imported recipe into Processes using heuristics, but it cannot deal with recipes whose authors use inconsistent language within the same recipe.

The Enhanced import feature augments the built-in algorithm with a structured call to a Large Language Model (Google Gemini). The LLM takes the output from our hand-crafted algorithm and enhances it, to improve the accuracy of the processes.

To make the most of the LLM call, we take the opportunity to resolve nutrition-matching results, as a free add-on. The nutritional values for a recipe are calculated by matching the recipe’s ingredient to our unified global nutrition database, which contains more than 14,000 foods. The LLM can make semantic connections between the recipe ingredient and the food database entries, where that connection is otherwise undetected by our hand-crafted algorithm due to regional or author language.
